The following rules apply to priority seating on the Paris Metro and they are typically French in their Byzantine complexity. There are nine (!) categories of people who can claim a priority seat. In descending order of priority they are:

Mutilés de guerre et mutilés militaires

Aveugles civils

Invalides du travail

Infirmes civils avec station debout pénible

Femmes enceintes

Personnes accompagnées d'enfants de moins de 4 ans

Infirmes civils sans précision de la station debout pénible

Personnes titulaires de la carte station debout pénible

Personnes âgées de 75 ans et plus

In English:

War and military disabled

Blind civilians

Disabled workers

Disabled civilians who have trouble standing

Pregnant women

Persons with children under age 4

Disabled civilians who do not have trouble standing

Persons with a card stipulating that they have trouble standing

Seniors aged 75 and over

Magnifique, n'est-ce pas?
